'I hope the DVD shows people the experiences you can have when you're exploring folk music. There's one I come back to often that's also in the film. I'm in the small living room of a Sicilian man as an incredibly mournful folk song, recorded by Alan over 60 years ago, is starting to soar from the speakers. I watch this middle-aged man hear his late father's emotional tenor, see his eyes fill up, and feel mine do the same. To me, that moment captures what all documentary should aim to do: capture moments that are just as real, profound and truthful.'

2:19 AM || In autumn 2006 Rounder records (www.rounder.com) will release Lomax the Songhunter in its original cinema version (92 minutes) on DVD. We are still negotiating for a soundtrack CD in the same box.

2:24 AM || Lomax the Songhunter wins Golden Calf



Last Friday, Lomax the Songhunter received the Golden Calf for Best Dutch Documentary of the Year at the Dutch Film Festival in Utrecht.


The jury rapport reads:

"BEST LONG DOCUMENTARY
The registration of a reconnoitring expedition is an often used tool in documentaries. In the awardwinning movie, this tool gets a new meaning because this reconnoitring expedition leaves you with a hopeful and cheerful feeling.

The Golden Calf for Best Long Documentary 2005 goes to LOMAX THE SONGHUNTER of Rogier Kappers."

Filled with happiness and pride we hereby announce that LOMAX THE SONGHUNTER by Rogier Kappers has been nominated for a golden Calf for best long documentary on the Dutch Film Festival.

LOMAX THE SONGHUNTER by Rogier Kappers is in competition with:

LOMAX THE SONGHUNTER by Rogier Kappers
DE STAND VAN DE MAAN (Shape Of The Moon) by Leonard Retel Helmrich.

The Dutch Film Festival writes in their press release:

"Rogier Kappers makes the different aspects of the work and life of Alan Lomax in an un-ephatical way. Along the way the realization grows with the viewer that this isn't simply just the case of a driven visionair, but also of the power that music itself carries. Could- in regards to the jury- have lasted for several hours more!"

The Golden Calves will be handed out on Friday the 7th of October from 19:45 hours till 21:30 hours at the Central Studios in Utrecht. The award show can be viewed live on the internet at
